1. SOURCE OF NAME
Atiku Abubakar got the name of his grandfather. It is a tradition among the Fulani people to name their first sons after their paternal grandfathers.

Atiku's parents were not financially buoyant enough, so at first the boy did not go to school, even though the Native Authority Officials has embarked on a compulsory mass literacy campaign in the region.
